Blind Barber has opened their first-ever Philadelphia location on the corner of Sansom and Juniper. This unique concept features a fully functional barbershop front, with a second-level speakeasy. The newest edition to their series of spots is sponsored by Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies and will feature “The Bryce” cut as well as his line of coconut scented hair and beard care products.

This swanky new spot is responsible for the drastic change in style of the once haggard Hale Building, which has been vacant for nearly two decades. The entrance to the space is very discrete and could be easily overlooked by day-to-day foot traffic. The barbershop area has a simple, clean-cut look with white subway tile walls and white mosaic tile floor. The accent wall with custom mirror soffits adds depth to the room with streaky caramel and espresso tones. As you move toward that back area, you are met by a bar area that will provide patrons cocktails that come complimentary with each hair cut.

Originally, the second floor was only accessible by a stairway adjacent to the entrance of the first floor, but RKA was able to build an entirely new staircase in the back of the space that will take guests to the speakeasy portion. The upstairs bar has all of the best parts of a classic speakeasy with modern accents. The stairway is decorated with bright floral wallpaper and spherical chandeliers which segues into a bar area. The bar is decorated with small, built-in lamps that give an old-timey flare paired with the modern decorative wallpaper. The other side of the space had miniature banquette seating that was custom built by RKA using the frame of the existing cove windows. The area is topped off with a retro halogen light sign with the phrase "pretty please".

This locating of Blind Barber fully encapsulates the timeless aspects of a speakeasy while also adding modern flare. It is the perfect place to get a fresh cut and enjoy specialty cocktails and tapas.
